PV- B_ Public Viewing Box

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

Following up on the interviews in the streets, Public Viewing Boxes are constructed. The PV- B´s are installed in the Mmabhato stadium for the PVA´s (Public Viewing Area) for the World Cup games and function as a telescope. Different areas of the stadium are in focus and people are asked to draw possible future scenarios for those spaces within the stadium.

The Mafikeng Manual – a user guide to a creative city – locates empty spaces in the town of Mafikeng. The project developed due to the need in Mafikeng, to set up spaces for creative ideas and industries. During three weeks of research, 21 empty spaces in the realm of the inner town were found, documented and future purposes proposed. The Mafikeng Manual is part of the Cascoland Mafikeng 2010 project, which investigated the un (der) used Mmabatho Stadium as a possible platform for artistic interventions and happenings.

The „Hermannplatz“ is a central space occupied by different users. Upon closer examination it is clear, that those do not know about, and are hardly aiming or willing to approach each other. Three days a week the plaza transforms into a market area, which limits the possibilities of usages; homeless people e.g. are displaced. Habitat „Hermannplatz“ collects statements of different user groups regarding spatial arrangements of the market stalls that inhabit the displacement. Using a „working model“ of the plaza, different options of spatial possibilities are visualized that include the different interests and needs of the users for the „Habitat Hermannplatz“.
